Refer a Friend

The Refer a Friend feature can be found on your User Page just below your user card − it enables you to create a referral link that gives your friend a discount and earns you referral credit!

When you refer a friend you give them 20% off their first payment and you'll receive a credit worth 20% of their purchase (recurring)! See below for more details.

The referral card enables you to quickly copy a referral link that you can share with a friend or directly in your favorite online community! You can tap the Learn More button to view more details about the referral program including the total credit you’ve earned, the available balance (to be applied to your next renewal), and a summarized history of the last 12 months!

When you refer a friend using your referral link and they sign-up for a subscription, they'll automatically receive a coupon worth 20% off their first purchase and when their payment is processed you'll get a credit worth 20% of their purchase (excluding tax and any discounts). Best yet, as long as they stay subscribed, you'll continue to receive purchase credits for subscription renewals!

See the FAQ below for more details.

Available Balance

The 'Available Balance' card shows the currently available credit balance which will apply to your next SharpTools.io purchase or renewal. This is effectively the current credit available to be used and includes credits earned through the referral program, manual adjustments to your account by staff, and accounts for any previously spent credit.

Total Earned

The total amount earned through referral credits*. Unlike the 'Available Balance' card, this card includes the summary of credits earned through the referral program (minus refunds), but does not include manual balance adjustments by staff nor any reductions from credits spent.

*This is generally up-to-date immediately, but may be delayed by a few minutes.

History Chart

The history chart shows the data from the last 12 months of total earned referral credits*. Like the Total Earned card, the history chart includes the summary of credits earned through the referral program (minus refunds), but does not include manual balance adjustments by staff nor any reductions from credits spent.

*This is generally up-to-date immediately, but may be delayed by a few minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How long is a referral link valid?

The referral link itself is valid indefinitely, but the referred guest must subscribe to premium within 60 days of clicking the link for the individual referral to become active.

How does a referral link work?

Once a friend clicks on your link, the referral details are stored in their browser. They must either register as a new user or open their existing SharpTools.io user page from the same browser in which they were referred for a 'referral' to get created. In order for a referral to become active, they must subscribe to premium within 60 days of clicking the referral link.

When does the referral credit get applied to my account?

Referral credits are immediately applied to your account once your referral's payment is completed. Note that most new users will be on a 14-day trial and even though their account will immediately reflect their premium status after they upgrade to premium, their payment card won't be charged until the trial period has concluded.

What if my friend cancels?

If your friend cancels their subscription, the referral will become inactive when their subscription ends. If they decide to resubscribe while the cancellation is still pending, the referral remains active.

What if multiple people refer someone?

Only the last referral link used by the guest before they subscribe will be valid. Once a subscription is active, it remains tied to a referral until the subscription is cancelled.

How do I use my credits?

Your 'Available Balance' is automatically applied to your next purchase or subscription renewal. You cannot opt-out of using the available balance nor can credits be transferred.

Can referral coupons be combined with promotions?

No, referral coupons use our standard coupon system and cannot be combined with other promotional offers. During checkout, referred guests can choose between the active promotion, if one is available, and the referral coupon as they see fit.

What's the difference between 'Available Balance' and 'Total Earned'?

In short, one shows you the amount that's available to be used as payment and the other shows the total credits earned over the life of the account. Available Balance is the currently available balance on the account including credits received, credits spent, and account adjustments whereas Total Earned shows the total amount of credits earned on the account (and does not include account adjustments or credits spent).

Why don't I see the referral feature?

If you are still on your free trial, the referral feature won't show up until you either upgrade to premium or at the conclusion of your trial. If you already have premium, try refreshing your browser to make sure you're viewing the latest version of the page.
